My Work
Below is just a small sample of the work I have done using technologies like PHP (with Smarty), CakePHP, .NET MVC, Perl, JQuery, Prototype, MySQL, and SQL Server.
-
100% custom AJAX app to handle deployment of code from different working environments. Recognized the need for said tool and built it during downtime.
-
Needed a way to see our lead flow in real time and monitor for any hiccups in the system. Developed an AJAX app that showed leads as they spooled in.
-
One of many quick and dirty admins created to allow users to do CRUD updates. MVC frameworks made creating them easy and I like giving them clean UIs.
-
Custom admin heavily reliant on AJAX called for validating data, pulling data dynamically, and providing in-application help and documentation.
-
Created a number of tools to allow the newsroom at the Seattle Times to engage with users more easily. This was the Poll Generator.
-
SLACker allowed Seattle Times staff to verify content on the site. It ran multi-threaded to be as fast as possible and could be scheduled or run ad hoc.
-
I like indented HTML (especially when inheriting other people's code), and I went looking for a tool that would do it. I couldn't find one so I built one of the most popular HTML / Coldfusion indenters on the web.
-
Just showing that my HTML Formatter generally ranks in position one, two, or three for that term. I have done some good SEO work to make sure that my site comes up when people are looking for an easy way to format HTML.
-
Created a timelapse photography project that condensed my wife's pregnancy down to 20 seconds. It became the featured video on YouTube and has since started an entire genre of pregnancy timelapse movies.
-
We ended up on eight or nine national TV shows, and the whole experience opened my eyes to creating viral content and being able to build up web properties with this content. I have done so multiple times now.
-
I'm a huge fan of organization, so one of the first things I did when joining WCS was to create a structure for all the tools and URLs that were important to our business, making it easy to find these things and to train new staff.
